As everyone knows, social media is still in its infancy. Ten years ago, although hard to imagine, it did not exist they way it does now. We use it to connect with old friends and it is an easy way to stay in touch with out of town friends and family. So how does this affect businesses?! If you have a small business, you understand how costly it can be to market and advertise your company and what you do. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media websites are the perfect way to get your company’s name out there to your friends and family at no cost toyou. The idea is to get them interested in what you have to say and then get them to your website. ! !
Make sure that what you put on your social media page(s) is something interesting or eye catching. If you are in the clothing business, post pictures of your clothing you have on sale. If you are into dog training, post videos of the dog classes. Show people what you do. Hopefully, your followers will share it to their friends and family which will drum up business you didn’t have before. This is basically a virtual word of mouth tool and people do business with people they like. ! !
Things not to post on your company’s page are your political opinions, personal venting or religious views. It also is a good idea to not post any negative slams on opposing sports teams. Remember what your parents taught you, never discuss religion or politics. Same rule applies when it comes to your social media page for your business. Once again, these things can andwill turn potential customers away which of course, is counter productive. If you are IN the
business or religion or politics, that is a completely different story.! !
Think about how many times you have gotten on Facebook or Pinterest and think about how many friends you follow and vice versa. That is a sea of potential clients and once again, people do business with people they know and like. Also think of this: all of those friends and family have a different set of friends and family to whom they are connected. People talk on these social forums and many ask for advice from their friends. How many times have you seen someone ask for a good local plumber or house painter? Your friends will share your business with their friends. “Call my plumber Bill. He’s the best. Here’s his number and tell him I gave it to you.” Need I say more? ! !
